KIT, the Research University in the Helmholtz Association (Karlsruhe, Germany),
invites applications for a 3-year PhD candidate position in Philosophy of Science
starting at the earliest opportunity. The successful candidate will work with Prof.
Dr.Dr. Rafaela Hillerbrand (philosophy) and Prof. Dr. Marcus Elstner (chemistry) and
be part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) 2450 ‘Tailored Scale-
Bridging Approaches to Computational Nanoscience’, http://www.compnano.kit.edu/.

The PhD study will focus on the

Epistemic Aspects of Computer Simulations in Nanoscience

Expertise Required: Graduates with an excellent academic record either in
philosophy/philosophy of science, or physical/chemical/computational sciences and a
strong interest in the respective other fields are invited to apply. The successful
candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team and needs to engage with both
scientists and philosophers. The successful candidate will be part of the research
group Philosophy of Engineering, Technology Assessment, and Science, PhilETAS,

Assessment and System Analysis, ITAS, at KIT and they will be part of KIT’s faculty of
humanities and social sciences.
